Chris Whitehurst-Director
Mr Whitehurst is currently Director of Bands at Camden County High School in Camden, NC, where he was also a 1993 graduate. After high school, he spent 2 years at Elizabeth City State University majoring in music business and engineering before transferring and graduating from East Carolina University with a degree in music education. He earned his National Board Certification in 2003 and his masters in School Administration from ECSU in 2013.

Mr. Whitehurst’s personal philosophy is to use the power of music education to inspire young people and transform their lives. His students have gone on to be professional performers, music educators, graduate of the Julliard School of music but most importantly life long lovers of music. He is most proud of the legacy he has created by sending students into the world with a strong understanding of work ethic, determination and high moral character.
When not teaching Mr Whitehurst is a real estate agent and spends his remaining free time at Mojo Studios… his home studio writing, recording and growing his audio and video business Cw Multimedia. He lives with his wife Mandy and 2 sons in Camden.
Megan Strange-Visual Ensemble
Megan Strange is a 2018 liberal studies graduate from Longwood University and a 2022 M.Ed Special Education graduate from the University of Phoenix. Megan is a graduate of Hickory High School in Chesapeake, VA where she spun four seasons of fall colorguard and four season of winterguard. Before coming to the Marching Bruins, Megan previously instructed the Hickory High School colorguard and winterguard. Megan is currently a Special Education teacher in Chesapeake, VA.
Evan Copeland-Visual Design
Mr. Copeland has been the band director at Perquimans County HS for the past 3 years and has been writing marching band drills and choreography for schools in Eastern NC for 7 years. He is excited to return for his 3rd season working with the Camden Blue Machine.
Joe Musico-Sound Design/Marching
Joe is a graduate of Great Bridge High School and has been with the Marching Bruins since 2010. In addition to his high school band experience, Joe has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in sound and audio reproduction. Joe is especially gifted with logistics and details and serves a critical role to the band staff and Mr Whitehurst insuring that all the details are thought through before we perform.
Amari Lewis-Brass
Amari is a music education major at East Carolina University.
Austin Marcum-Percussion
Austin is a junior Music Education major at East Carolina University where he serves on the leadership team. He is a graduate and proud product of the Camden High School Band and Blue Groove Drumline.

Steve Chalker-Marching Tech/Logistics
Son of a high school band director at Westminster High School, marched percussion, played bassoon in concert band and orchestra, Steve has been actively involved in the marching arts for many years from Melbourne High School in Florida, Deming High School Band In New Mexico to the1979 Grand National Champion, Hanover, PA HS band. When Mr. Chalker moved to NC, he became active in the local scene in 2003 working alongside Mr Whitehurst at Perquimans HS and currently at Camden.
